How can I add photographs?
Any method that can create a bitmap file on your PC will be suitable for this process. Common techniques include:
- Scanning an existing photograph using a computer scanner
- Taking the photographs using a digital camera.
- Using a video camera to capture still images
- Using a normal camera and having the photographs developed anto a PhotoCD
The most common technique and by far the simplest is the scanner.
The photograph printed on the Identity cards is 3.5cm x 4.5cm because these are the dimensions of most passport photographs. The photographs displayed on the computer screen of the Employee Form are in the same proportions.
Displaying images on the screen requires a trade-off between quality and speed. The higher the quality of the image the larger it needs to be and so the longer it takes to load into the computers memory. Having a lot of large files also takes up space on the computers hard disk.
Scanning images at a high resolution is unlikely to be a good solution because neither your monitor nor printer may be able to make good use of the extra detail.
HR Complete is able to display photographs stored in a variety of formats. The two most common (and future-proof) formats are bitmap images (eg myPhoto.bmp) and jpeg images (eg myphoto.jpg). We recommend that you use one of these two formats.
You will need to determine the best resolution for scanning images within your company, however as a guideline, most companies find that the following values work well:
- Bitmap images Scanning resolution 75 dpi (dots per inch)
- Jpeg images Scanning resolution 300 dpi
The name of the individual image file must be the same as that recorded in the Employee Nº field of the Employee form.
When a photograph is saved it is important to save all the photographs to the same location. The images can be stored anywhere on a network.
Each client PC must be taught the location of the image files. This only needs to be done once and is done by entering the appropriate location in the Photo path prefix field on the User Settings form.
HR Complete can support a variety of image file types. However it is necessary for all files to be stored in the same format. The format needs to be entered in the Photo path suffix field of Settings Form 1.This only needs to be done on one PC for all PC’s to be updated.
